Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery (LDRP)

Assignment Duration: 13 Weeks

Shift:

Nights – 3x12-Hour (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
Every other weekend required

Compensation for 36 hours: $2,329 Per Week

• Weekly Gross: $2,329.00 Per Week
• On W2(Taxable): $720.00 Per Week ($20/hour)
• Stipend (Non-Taxable): $1,609.00 Per Week

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join a dynamic LDRP unit at ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital. The RN will be responsible for providing comprehensive care to laboring patients, postpartum mothers, and newborns, including supporting high-risk deliveries and C-sections. This is a Level I nursery facility with 8 beds and a census of approximately 4 patients daily.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct care during labor, delivery, and postpartum phases.
• Perform and assist in procedures including amnioinfusion, C-sections (circulate and scrub), and vaginal deliveries.
• Conduct sterile vaginal exams, EFM, and administer medications.
• Educate parents on newborn care, breastfeeding support, and discharge instructions.
• Manage pain using epidural, general anesthesia, nitrous oxide, and assess pain levels.
• Float to other women’s units and assist within scope, including 1:1 observation of confused patients.
• Maintain accurate documentation using Epic Stork and IntelliSpace.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience
• Travel experience required (recent or prior)
• Experience in a community hospital and Level I nursery
• Must be comfortable floating to related units

Licensure and Certifications:

• Michigan RN License (MUST be in hand at submission)
• BLS, ACLS, NRP, EFM (Required)
• AWHONN Advanced or NCC (Required if no NCC)
• STABLE (Preferred)

Skills Required:

• Labor & Delivery Management: C-section recovery, vaginal deliveries, hemorrhage management, vacuum/forceps, high-risk deliveries.
• Neonatal/Newborn Care: APGAR, thermoregulation, ID/security, phototherapy, hypoglycemia care, metabolic screening.
• Antepartum/Postpartum: NSTs, dilation assessments, breastfeeding support, wound care, couplet care, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage.
• Medication Admin: Pitocin, Terbutaline, Magnesium Sulfate, anticoagulants, anticonvulsants.
• IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Start IVs, draw blood, administer blood products.

Unit Details:

• Beds: 8 (LDRP Model)
• Rooms: 12 total, including triage and antenatal testing
• Daily Census: ~4 patients
• Staffing Ratios:
  • Laboring: 1:1
  • Couplets: 1:3–4
  • Surgical patients: 1:3
• Support Services: Pharmacy, Respiratory Therapy, RRTs, Social Work

• Scrubs Provided
• Charting System: Epic (Preferred)
• Medication System: Pyxis
• Orientation: 12 hours
• Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live 50+ miles away)
• Block Scheduling: Not available
• Holiday Coverage: Required per observed holiday calendar
• Floating: Required within scope, including other units as needed
