THE ROLE: State Policy Advocate American Student Assistance (ASA) is a national nonprofit that is changing the way kids learn about careers and prepare for their futures through access to career-readiness information and experiences. We are looking for a State Policy Advocate responsible for partnering with the Social Impact team on projects that advance ASA’s organizational priorities, especially around a new state-level strategy and workstream. What You’ll Do Create and execute a strategy for state-level advocacy in collaboration with ASA’s Policy & Advocacy team. Develop a policy platform and tailored package for governors in target states based on their specific needs. Build relationships with state legislators, agencies, advocates, and stakeholders such as school systems, trade associations, think tanks, business groups, parents, and policymaker staff, either in person or remotely. Facilitate the creation, leadership, and execution of state-level advocacy campaigns on priority issues. Track, monitor, and analyze relevant state legislation. About You 5+ years of experience with education or labor policy, government relations, or non-profit advocacy at the state level, with experience working with legislative bodies. Experience with policy analysis and advocacy campaigns. Ability to research, interpret, and simplify complex legislative issues verbally and in writing. Strong research and analytical skills to synthesize complex information into actionable insights. Knowledge of policies and education systems relevant to ASA’s influence areas. Why ASA?
