Title: Library Assistant 2 (Part-Time/Regular)

Campus Location: Kingsport Center for Higher Education


Salary: $19,492 - $23,391 annual salary ($15.00 - $18.00 per hour), dependent on education and experience


Schedule: 25 hours a week. Tuesday, Thursday (3:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.) & Friday (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education and Saturday (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) at the Basler Library in Blountville.


Job Summary


Reporting to the Dean of the Library, the Library Assistant 2 is responsible for assisting patrons in a library environment as needed with basic information and services, including online databases, the Library's catalog, and the internet. They will also assist with clerical tasks and day-to-day operations as requested by the Executive Director of the Kingsport Center for Higher Education and the Dean of the Library. This position reports to two locations: Tuesday, Thursday & Friday at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education and Saturday at the Basler Library in Blountville.


Job Duties


•Responsible for library circulation services and operations at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education - Learning Resource Center


•Work Saturdays from 9am - 5pm at the Basler Library on the Blountville campus.


•Maintain and operate circulation services through the Library's automation system (ALMA) including checkout, renewal, and return of library materials


•Analyze patron information needs, select and recommend library resources to best match educational and research needs


•Assist library patrons as requested or needed; provide basic information and directional services; assist patrons with searching online databases, the Library's catalog, and the internet


•Maintain and compile selected statistics and generate specific reports utilizing the Library's automation system (ALMA)


•Process books and periodicals; maintain areas of collection; support bibliographic maintenance procedures


•Create book displays and marketing materials to promote the Library.


•Operate all technology applications in the Library, including the Internet, online catalog, student PCs, scanners, printers, copiers, etc.


•Answer circulation desk telephone; receive and distribute messages and requests for library services; process patron requests for items such as class schedules, reserves, interlibrary loans and renewals


•Assist the Executive Director of the Kingsport Center for Higher Education with day-to-day operations, as requested.


•Complete other assignments as directed by supervision.


Minimum Qualifications


•Associate's degree from an accredited institution
•Two years of experience providing customer service

Preferred Qualifications


•Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
•Experience working in a library
•Experience working in higher education
•Conversational ability or fluency in a second language

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


•Technology Skills: MS Office suite; videoconferencing software; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems
•Strong interpersonal skills
